과학자와 교육자, 두 분야에서 모두 새로운 모델을 만들어내고 모두가 인정할 만한 모범이 된 김영길 한동대 초대총장은 고향 지례에서 받은 참교육을 정리하고, 오늘날 우리에게 진정으로 필요한 교육은 무엇인지, 무엇을 바탕에 깔아야 인류와 세계에 유용한 인재로서의 밑거름을 심어줄 수 있는지에 대해 기술한다.

이 책은 김영길 한동대 초대 총장의 삶과 성공 사례를 바탕으로 그의 교육관을 보여주고, 진정한 교육과 진정한 인재를 키우기 위해 필요한 화두를 던짐으로써 더 나은 교육 패러다임의 새로운 시각을 갖게 한다. 저자는 “세상을 변화시킬 근본적 해결책은 세계시민교육”이라고 제언하며, “21세기 새로운 교육은 창의적 지식 교육과 함께 정직과 성실의 인성 교육, 지(智)·덕(德)·체(體)의 전인교육, 특히 세계와 함께 더불어 사는 세계시민의식 등을 포괄하는 총체적 교육(Holistic Education)”이라고 설명한다. 한글판을 토대로 내용이 증보 수정되었다.


저자 김영길 Dr. Young-Gil Kim
Dr. Kim returned to Korea in 1979, he worked as a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST). After KAIST, he served as the founding and chartered president of Handong Global University(HGU) in Pohang from 1994 to 2014. After retiring from the presidency of HGU, he is now the chairman of Korea Association of Academic Impact in Support of UNAI(UNAI Korea).

With his passion for global education, UNAI Korea launched Ban Ki-moon Global Education Institute in Support of UNAI(the GEI) together with HGU in 2017. The GEI is a leading institute to promote Holistic Global Citizenship Education with global partners from academy to international organizations, NGOs, government, etc.
